A FICTIONAL TALE FROM OUR UPCOMING SANDY CAPE CHAPTER

I was only helping.

The sandwich incident, as told by Ares.

First of all, nobody said the sandwich wasn’t for me.

It was right there. On a plate. At nose height, if you made a little effort. I think we can all agree that this is confusing.

David said we were going away to relax. Jo said we were going to enjoy the sunshine. I heard “outdoor dining experience” and prepared accordingly.

When David shouted, I assumed he wanted to join in. So I ran a bit faster. A family activity! Already the holiday was going brilliantly.

“That was MY lunch!” is a very long way of saying “good boy”.

Later, I helped clear the table. The humans seemed surprised by my efficiency. Apparently there is a correct order for removing plates, and it is not “all at once”.

I also brought some beach back to the bed. Thoughtful, really. Why walk all the way to the sand when the sand can come to you?

We finished the day in the water. No sandwiches. No tablecloths. Just my favourite humans, the sea and a very good stick.

Back home, everyone said they needed another holiday.

I’m available. But next time, I’d like room service.

Love, Ares.
Good dog. Unreliable narrator.
