The Pointing Problem.

David knows where the bug is. Ares has other ideas.

Six-panel comic: David points at a bug on the paving, but Ares searches the roof and the far end of the backyard instead. The bug stays right in front of them.

The target. David points at a bug on the paving beside Ares: “Ares! Get it!”

Looking up. Ares looks towards the roof and thinks: “Up there?”

A little direction. David crouches and points at the bug: “No, mate. Down here!” Ares looks away.

The far end. Ares searches the other end of the backyard and thinks: “Over there?”

Right under his nose. David points again: “It’s RIGHT THERE!” Ares looks up.

Mission accomplished? David sits with his head in his hand. Ares thinks: “Good news. The roof’s clear.” The bug is still on the paving in front of them.
