The Great Duck Detour.

David planned an easy walk. Ares spotted the ducks.

Six-panel comic: Ares chases ducks into a pond, then refuses to swim back. David walks around the pond to retrieve him, earning a Good boy, Dad from Ares.

A quiet walk. David and Ares walk beside a pond. David: “Nice, easy walk, mate.”

A distraction. Ares spots ducks and leaps into the water. Ares: “DUCKS!” Splash!

The other side. A soaking Ares stands on the far bank. David: “Come on, mate! Back you come!” Ares: “Oh.”

Ten minutes later… Ares: “I’m not getting wet twice.”

The detour. David pushes through the reeds, following a sign around the pond. David: “Apparently I’m the retriever.”

Reunited. David and Ares walk together again. Ares: “Good boy, Dad.”
